Happy Rotary Day
23rd February is the day when Rotary was born in 1905 in Evanston, Illinois, USA. As we celebrate the 105th Anniversary of Rotary, let us review our commitment and our promises that we have made to our community...the promises of membership, the promises to contribute to PolioPlus Challenge Grant, the promise to the Membership Development. It is now just five months more to fulfil, or rather excel and exceed, your promised targets. Please share your thoughts with me in case you face any challenge.

District Conference concludes successfully
My heartiest congratulations to Rtn PP Navjit Aulakh and Pres H.S. Saggu and members of the entire club for successful conduct of the District 3080 Conference. The special mention goes to them particularly looking at the fact that the Conference was organised by them in less than 20 days, when this had to be shifted from the earlier venue of Haridwar. It is creditable that they had been able to bring together even the sponsors to provide an excellent kit, and a great pre-conference dinner at PHD House.
Our compliments to DG Chetan Aggarwal and Neelam who worked relentlessly under great pressure to rework everything right from the speakers to the venue.
Those who were away from the District Conference they missed a great deal. They not only missed meeting their fellow Rotarians, but also the great speakers like the Governor of Panjab, Shri Shivraj V. Patil, who succinctly provided the crux of Rotary's service.
Young member of parliament, Manish Tewari, provided a perspective on national security and neighbourhood policing.
Dr. Kiran Bedi, who won everyone's heart with her passionate and forceful presentation on the women of tomorrow.
And a charming literary journey and thought-provoking address by noted economist, Dr. Abid Hussain.
At the Rotary Shreyas Awards, Hero Honda's MD Mr Pawan Munjal, Rajya Sabha Member and Editor in Chief of The Tribune Mr H.K. Dua, and bollywood actor Ms Kirron Kher, added glory to the conference proceedings.
The next day, Swami Agnivesh exhorted everyone to join the common fight against various social evils while tv personality and PDG Surinder Seth from District 3070, took everyone on his 'Chariots of Success' for a journey of Indian classical literature and scriptures.
Not to be missed was the release of PRIP R.K. Saboo's book "Look Beyond Yourself" by Dr Abid Hussain, Service Above Self award to Rtn PP Dr P.S. Chari of Rotary Club Chandigarh, recognition of doctor volunteers for Intercontinental Medicare Project, and pass outs of the 8th Rotary District Leadership Academy.
And of course the musical interlude by famous panjabi folk singer Dolly Guleria, and the evening performances at Rock Garden.
One can go on and on and there was so many vignettes of excellence that added charm to the entire proceedings, that made ROTARY CONFLUENCE 2010: SHAPE THE FUTURE, a truly memorable experience.
There had been a team of Rotarians from various clubs in our Zone 3, including PP Sandeep Luthra handling the audio visuals and lighting up the proceedings with sound effects...members of Rotary Club of Chandigarh Shivalik including Pres Maneet Matharoo, handling the registration process, and of Rotary Club Panchkula handling the delegates' kit management, and Rtn Secy Ritu Singhal of Rotary Club Chandigarh Midtown decorating the stage, Rtn AG T K Ruby from Rotary Club Himalayan Ranges performing the duties of an efficient sergeant-at-arms.
There were a whole team of Rotarians, from various clubs who made the entire conference a grand success.
My heartiest congratulations to everyone, and kudos to our DG Chetan Aggarwal and the first lady Neelam for their composure, who took every challenge on their stride and with a peaceful, almost spiritual, contented smiles on their faces. It's truly great to be a part of his team.
